6 Reasons You Should Go To Iceland Right This Second

If you have ever told someone that you like to travel during a casual conversation then you have probably been asked what your favourite place that you’ve ever been to is. My answer to this question has always been Iceland, and probably will always be too.

Iceland is just magical. When I first arrived there and started looking around me; I couldn’t help but wonder if I was in a dream. Was this place even real? Like, are you kidding me?

Here are 6 reasons you MUST book a flight to Iceland immediately.

1. The Golden Circle Tour

Really, this is lots of little reasons in one. The Golden circle tour is perhaps one of the most popular tours that Iceland have to offer; and it’s not difficult to see why with all of the beautiful stops along the way:

Thengvellir National Park

A lovers walk

For me,Β Thengvellir felt like a real life Narnia.

It’s snowy, it’s magical & it seems to go on forever.

Gullfoss is called ‘Golden Falls’, as on a sunny day the water that plunges down looks truly golden. I’ve seen lots of waterfalls but this one was beyond anything I’ve seen before. JUST LOOK AT IT!

Geysir hot springs

2. You can take a stroll around the president’s house

You can even find his number in the phonebook to call him up and ask him what he thought about the latest episode of Downton Abbey if you really want to. I love how laid back and safe Iceland is that you can get this close an encounter with the president… legend even has it that you can sometimes catch him walking his Dog around the area if you are really lucky.

Imagine being able to walk around the White House & call up Obama after and be likeΒ ‘WASSUP MR PREZ?!’ Yeah, I can’t either…

3. Folklore

Iceland really believes in Elves, Dwarfs, Gnomes, Fairies and all sorts of mystical beings. They believe they are hidden in the rocks and along the roadside, and can be found hiding in most places if you look hard enough. It’s amazing to sit and listen to the people lighting up as they tell you stories from their folklores. You can even enroll at Elf School for the day to find out as much as you possibly can.

4. The Blue Lagoon

When you think about Iceland, what is the first thing that you think of? Probably the Blue Lagoon, and why wouldn’t it be? The Geothermal spa is incredibly hot and lovely and contains silica, algae and minerals. Don’t bother buying facepack treatments as you can get these for free in different locations, and make sure that you condition your hair and protect it properly before getting in, or you will have the same fate of horribly tangly hair for the next couple of weeks.

5. The Ice bar

This is one of my fondest memories of my trip. It was hyped up to us so much but was absolutely terrible inside with just me and my friend in there. I wouldn’t change it for the World though as this is what made the memory so special, and our time in there so funny. Get yourself in there for the bestest picture in the whole wide world, like above.

6. The Northern Lights

This is actually a terrible picture, but it’s the only one that I managed to get of the Northern lights as I was too busy oggling at what I was seeing. As amazing as the lights themselves are, and they really are, the thing that got me the most was the blanket of stars that went as far as the eye could see. The whole thing is just incredible, and definitely worth trying to go and see before they dim!

I wrote a post with a similar title, but didn’t include any of the things you mentioned here! Where is the Ice Bar located? I hadn’t heard of it before!

Great post, Lizzie! πŸ™‚ As someone who’s instantly drawn to far-flung, tropical places, I sometimes forget the beauty that’s right on my doorstep.

Great, I really have to travel to Iceland! It’s been on my list for years now! I didn’t know that their folklores are about Elves, Dwarfs, Gnomes etc. That’s making it even more attractive to me! I love folklores and I believe a bit more of imagination within your daily life, would make the life even better πŸ™‚

  5. Yes I want to visit it for all the characters from the fairy tales to come alive. And I absolutely am following your points when ever I get lured by the northern lights πŸ˜€

I want to see the Northern Lights! Now that I read your article, I also want to have a drink in the Ice Bar and see the other beautiful places πŸ™‚

I love the part about calling up the President…what a fun little tidbit πŸ™‚ I would love to see Iceland, but I doubt I will make it up there anytime soon. Seems like the complete opposite of my current Cairo πŸ™‚

I never really thought I would want to go to Iceland…. but lately I’ve come across so many great posts! Maybe it’s because I am seriously missing real winter down here in Florida.

  9. I had never thought about it, buy Iceland sounds truly wonderful! What is the best season to visit? Right now it’s winter, so isn’t it too cold to go there? Do you think the summer would be better?
